How I did Verona for the day for £32

By

I’ve become slightly obsessed with extreme day trips recently, and Verona might be one of my favourites so far.

Beautiful streets, good food, wine, sunshine… and still home in my own bed by midnight.

The Flights

I booked the flights through Skyscanner and flew from Stansted with Ryanair.

Outbound

Ryanair FR2338

  • Depart London Stansted: 06:10
  • Arrive Verona: 09:10

Flight cost: £17.69

Return

Ryanair FR2933

  • Depart Verona: 22:50
  • Arrive London Stansted: 23:59

Flight cost: £14.99

Total return flights:

£32.68

Honestly it’s cheaper than some train journeys in the UK.

Why Verona Works So Well As An Extreme Day Trip

The timings are basically perfect.

An early morning flight out and a late evening return meant we had over 12 hours in the city, which was more than enough time to properly enjoy it without rushing around too much.

Verona airport is really close to the city centre, which is one of the main things I always look at when booking an EDT because there’s no point finding cheap flights if you then lose half the day travelling from the airport. One of the reasons Verona works so well as an extreme day trip is how easy it is to get into the city from the airport.

When you arrive at Verona Airport, just follow the signs for the AirLink Bus (Line 199). Tickets can be bought from the machines inside the airport and the journey takes around 15–20 minutes.

The bus stops at Verona Porta Nuova station, and from there it’s an easy walk into the historic centre.

We actually bought return tickets for £11 each, which made the whole journey really simple and meant we didn’t need to think about transport again until heading back to the airport at the end of the day.

What We Did

We spent most of the day just walking around the city, eating, drinking wine and enjoying the atmosphere.

One of my favourite things about Verona is that it feels romantic and beautiful without feeling as hectic as somewhere like Rome.

We found little side streets, stopped for pasta and wine, sat in the sun, and just wandered with no real plan.

Exactly my kind of travel day.

Food

Barcelona may currently hold the crown for plant-based food, but Verona still surprised me.

I had pasta, wine, pistachio gelato and honestly one of the nicest slow travel-style days I’ve had in a while.

Sometimes food abroad just tastes better and I can’t explain why.

Was It Worth It?

100% yes.

Extreme day trips definitely aren’t relaxing! It’s a really long day and the alarm times are brutal — but there’s something really exciting about waking up in England and casually ending the day in Italy.

And being back home in your own bed afterwards somehow makes the whole thing even better.

Would I do Verona again as an extreme day trip?

Absolutely.
